Refrigerant Gas Accreditations: Certifications To Look For In a Facilities Maintenance Provider

Facilities maintenance gas accreditations are a commitment to safety and performance in the industry. The purpose of accreditation is to ensure the needs of people and the environment are met through suitable and optimal processes and building provisions.

At Voltix Services, our industry accreditations are a testament to our commitment to customer service and facilities maintenance excellence. In this blog, we take a closer look at accreditation requirements for F-gas safety and what these accreditations mean for our customers.

WHAT IS F-GAS?

Fluorinated gas or F-gas is a man-made family of gases that are used across a range of industrial applications. They are strong greenhouse gases and so their use is highly regulated. Some examples of where they can be found is in stationary refrigeration, air-conditioning, heat pumps; some fire safety applications like fire extinguishers; and in certain specialised cleaning solvents.

WHAT IS THE GUIDANCE AROUND F-GAS CERTIFICATIONS?

In order to service stationary equipment using F-gas (fluorinated gas) for clients, a facilities maintenance provider must be certified by an approved body. The purpose of this is to preserve occupant wellbeing and safety, as well as prevent environmental damage from greenhouse gas emissions in line with domestic and international regulations to mitigate the effects of global warming.

WHAT DOES ‘F-GAS CERTIFIED’ MEAN?

Government guidance provides that, if a business instals, maintains, services, or decommissions equipment using F-gas refrigerants, it is required to be certified. This includes fridges, air-conditioning, and heat pumps – for example. The guidance does not apply to refrigerated trucks and trailers or vehicular air-conditioning and heating.

The requirements for accreditation include having sufficient employees to perform F-gas related tasks, as well as a written procedure for handling F-gas and minimising emissions.

OUR REFRIGERANT GAS ACCREDITATION

REFCOM F-GAS CERTIFICATION

Refcom is the UK’s largest F-gas register and ensures providers are of the correct size and  have the required qualifications, tools, and procedures to safely operate. How long does Refcom last? Certificates are valid for three years and need to be renewed before expiry.

FGR F-GAS REGISTRATION

As F-gas certification is required by law, it is prudent to work with companies on the F-gas register for any installations, services, maintenance, or decommission on air-conditioning, heat pumps, refrigeration, as well as the pipework to carry these refrigerants.
